Trauma Counselling

Trauma leaves indelible marks on us. Traumatic experiences – sexual assault, violence, verbal and emotional abuse – can lead to lost confidence, nightmares, panic attacks, intense anger, chronic stress, flashbacks, and PTSD. Ironically, they can easily debilitate us with shame and self-blame even though we hold no responsibility for what we suffered, leaving us on edge, distrustful, and disconnected. Counselling approaches help by moving at the client’s pace, and restoring a sense of connection in their personal lives and relationships with others. These approaches prioritize the clients’ physical and emotional safety so that they can come to terms with their trauma through the therapeutic relationship.

Trauma Counselling can help with concerns such as:

  • I can see the pattern of intergenerational trauma through my family, but I don’t know how to stop it.

  • Every time there is conflict in my relationship, I shut down or leave. I know this is not helpful, but it’s too overwhelming for me.

  • I managed to leave my abusive relationship, but I still have nightmares about it, and I’m so lonely.

  • Because of my background, I had to grow up quickly. I am great in a crisis, but struggle to relax in day-to-day life.

  • I think I’m being gaslit. How do I tell?
